Known around the farm as “Lady” and also the matriarch of Welcome Pastures Thoroughbred Aftercare, foaled February 4th, 2013.
After 52 career starts, including 6 career wins over the span of 4 years, she was retired from racing to become a broodmare. After spending six years raising 5 beautiful foals, she has now found Welcome Pastures Thoroughbred Aftercare as her forever home. Lady is definitely the boss of the herd!
She loves kids, and never turns down a snack.
Lady has been gradually adjusting to life beyond racing and motherhood.
As we introduce her to work under saddle, she is showing a
wonderful work ethic and seems to truly enjoy having a job.
We are looking forward to watching this girl continue to thrive in her new career!

Known affectionately around the farm as “Sweetheart”, was
the first foal born to our very own Esken Lady, on February 21, 2020.
Sweetheart spent 3 years on the track, taking home 2 wins out of
a career 7 starts. Sweetheart then spent some down time here on
the farm before being put to work for a second career.
She currently has a teenage lessee, who is helping bring her along with goals of eventually competing in the hunters. She even attended a few shows this past summer and brought home some ribbons! Sweetheart loves to show off and has been showing us that she truly has been enjoying her transition into a second career.

Born April 12th, 2021, is the second foal born to Esken Lady. Racing
under Dream Maker stable, V Lo had one career start and
was forced to retire his racing career.
Welcome pastures reached out for the opportunity to reunite V with his mother and siblings and he came to the farm to
start his transition into a second career.
Standing at 17.2, V Lo has no idea how big he is, and is the definition of puppy dog personality. He is definitely the comic relief around the farm…whether he’s carrying sticks in his mouth, or making silly faces as he sports his big donkey ears…he is always finding ways to make people laugh and smile. We are excited to see what the future holds for this big, goofy gelding!

Born May 5th, 2022, is the third foal born to Esken Lady.
After some training at the track, Bob suffered a sesamoid fracture and damage to a few tendons in his fetlock, forcing him into an early retirement. Unfortunately, Bob’s injury caused permanent damage, leaving him unable to transition into a second career. Welcome Pastures stepped in and offered Bob a forever home as a pasture companion. Bob loves treats and being groomed and loved on. He will happily go for hand walks around the farm, and hang out with you for hours. He just loves any kind of attention!
With his easy going personality, and quiet demeanor,
Bob has quickly become a barn favorite.

Meet Momma, Minnie, Piccata, and Parm—our four friendly girls
who call the middle paddock home!
Momma, Minnie, and Piccata are all related, while Parm came to us as an orphan. You may spot her a little farther from the other three, but rest assured—she gets plenty of love and attention!
These girls love apples, carrots, and greeting people with a lick from their rough tongues—a complimentary farm-style exfoliation!
And don’t let their names fool you: Piccata and Parm will never end up on a dinner plate. Their names are purely playful, and their home here is forever.
Look for these beautiful girls in the middle paddock, surrounded by the farm’s half-mile track.
